Natural Cell Suicide

Every day, in every normal adult human, billions of cells commit suicide to make room for other new, healthy cells. This happens in our dogs and in many other animals, too.

This natural cell suicide is known in scientific circles as programmed cell death, or apoptosis.

Apoptosis is a sequence of events programmed into the cellular genetic code that, when triggered, directs the cell to break itself down so the body can safely recycle or eliminate the remaining particles. The animal doesn’t usually feel a thing, because there are no side effects and very little (if any) inflammation with apoptosis. It’s as natural as breathing, and as necessary to health. After all, we can’t make room for healthy new cells without apoptosis.

Normal apoptosis genes don’t turn on at random times -- they turn on for a reason. Sometimes the cells committing suicide have reached the end of their natural lifespan and are just dying a natural death. Other cells undergo apoptosis after the body notices they have become deranged or sustained damage.
