Functional Nutriments Awarded Federal Grant to Apply its Dog Nutraceutical Research to Human Cancer
November 8, 2010
KIHEI, MAUI, HAWAII, NOVEMBER 9, 2010: Functional Nutriments, the makers of Apocaps®, the world’s first dietary apoptogens for dogs, announced it was awarded a $244,479 Federal grant to research the application of its apoptosis-inducing formula for human cancers.
The grant is part of the U.S. government’s $1 Billion Qualifying Therapeutic Discovery Project, overseen by the Internal Revenue Service and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The QTDP program offers funding to small companies creating medical therapies with the potential to reduce health care costs, create jobs, improve U.S. competitiveness, or significantly advance the goal of curing cancer within the next 30 years.
It was a competitive awards process with applications being reviewed by the National Institutes of Health. The program was oversubscribed with about $10 Billion in requests. The projects that won the federal grants and tax credits were seen as the most promising by the NIH review committee. The cash grant of $244,479 was the highest amount a single project could receive.
“We are pleased for the recognition and to receive this grant to further our research and development in the use of apoptogens to combat cancer,” said James Jacobson, Functional Nutriment’s Chief Executive Officer. “We believe that this grant is further validation that our research may one day extend beyond dogs and help people who are fighting cancer.”
Chief Medical Officer and company co-founder Dr. Demian Dressler, DVM said, “Apoptosis is a such a fundamental biological process and the ability to induce it in cancer cells using natural apoptogens suggests enormous potential for human cancer patients.”

ABC’s Shark Tank Features Veterinarian’s Product which Claims to Prevent Cancer in Pets
October 8, 2009
ABC’s business reality show Shark Tank featured a veterinarian who has a product that he claims prevents cancer in pets. The vet’s name is Dr. R. Geoffrey Broderick and his company is Cornucopia Express.
The sharks are interested in the concept, but in the end do not invest because they say that the vet doesn’t have scientific proof to back up his claims. That is interesting to us for a couple of reasons:
1. This validates that what Functional Nutriments is doing in terms of helping dogs with cancer is noteworthy.
2. It legitimates the business opportunity in that the sharks on Shark Tank see this as a worthwhile venture to invest in. (If you have seen the show, you already know that Kevin O’Leary is the sharkiest of any of the sharks on the program and he seems to be the most interested in the company.)
Functional Nutriments is raising capital to bring our dog nutraceutical to market. It is called Apocaps™ and was invented by Dr. Demian Dressler, DVM, a world-reknown dog cancer veterinarian and author. Our nutraceutical has already undergone clinical studies and test marketing. The results are stellar. (We wish that we would have known about Shark Tank when they were casting last August. The sharks would have liked our science.)
We are currently finishing out our A-round and qualified accredited investors may contact us directly to learn more about owning a piece of the company.
To discover more about Apocaps™ and what makes this such a ground-breaking nutraceutical, please read this article on Apocaps™ and Apoptosis.
Read more about canine cancer at DogCancerBlog.com which is written by Dr. Dressler and is the first site dog lovers turn to when they get the diagnosis that their dog has cancer.
Attention Dog Owners: Apocaps™ is not yet available to the general public. We sold out of our pilot batch. Please join our priority waiting list and we will notify you as soon as Apocaps are available. Join the waiting list at Apocaps.com

I am posting this here because a number of people have asked about Act 221 and how it helps us reach our goal of helping dogs and dog lovers.
Newfoundland with Fibrosarcoma gets Help from Supplement
February 27, 2009
Here is a testimonial that just came in. It is from the owner of Sebastian, an 11-year-old Newfoundland who lives in upstate New York.
>Our 11 year old Newfoundland was recently diagnosed with
>fibrosarcoma. There were obvious tumors present in his mouth. Soon
>after this diagnosis, we had the opportunity to start treatment with
>”Dragon Paw.” After just two weeks, we noticed that the tumor had
>shrunk subtantially. Now, after four weeks, the tumor continues to
>improve and we have not observed any detrimental side effects. He
>seems to be as energetic and contented as ever.
