Marketing Director Wanted for Fast-Growing Nutraceutical Company

November 7, 2011

Functional Nutriments is Hiring…

We are seeking a Marketing Director who lives in Maui or will be able to work virtually, possess an almost eerie ability to get up to speed, an optimistic outlook that supports the entrepreneur’s vision and a strong set of flexible left-brain and right-brain skills to handle a slew of wildly different tasks.

He or She will report directly to our CEO and be willing and able to manage themselves and the other people who come along after them.

The ideal candidate already works from their own home office (or can set one up) and is interested in full-time work in exchange for salary, stock options, and travel expenses for a visit to our headquarters in Maui, Hawaii.

If that piques your interest, ask yourself this:  “Am I a high achiever by nature?”

Do you get an inherent sense of pleasure from working in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects and rolling up your sleeves to get things done? Are you entrepreneurial at heart?

Are you looking for full-time employment?

Our company’s main focus centers on a revolutionary patent-pending cancer therapeutic that we developed. The product is currently on the market and aimed at dogs. (Cancer is the #1 killer of dogs.)

Why dogs? Because one of the principals of Functional Nutriments is a veterinarian, and he invented Apocaps after researching how to help dogs fight cancer. It also turns out that dogs are physiologically close to humans when it comes to cancer, and are the preferred test subjects in clinical trials. That’s one reason why the Federal government (via the National Institutes of Health) awarded us a grant to research human applications for our product. A human cancer drug is years away, but we have a solid start with the product we are manufacturing and marketing today.

Cancer is an urgent matter, and there is a tremendous amount of work to be done. In order to move forward, we must have the right person on board to help us grow.  Is that you?

You do not need to have a medical background to be a good candidate, but you should have a good understanding of how and why consumer goods are bought. An understanding of the pet market (either from work or personal experience) is even more important.

Here are some other traits and skills you should have:

  • Management skills,( of yourself and others). Are you able to work independently? Can you help others to do the same? You will be working with independent contractors on multiple projects, and you will be their point person. Keeping everyone on track – yourself included – is one of the most important skill sets we are looking for.
  • Marketing savvy. If you’ve been trained by a large consumer products company, that is fantastic. But if you’ve acquired your knowledge of consumer behavior from working in a retail shop or online, that’s good too.
  • Direct marketing experience is a major plus. The CEO is a protégé of Jay Abraham and made infomercials for consumer products such as Tempur-Pedic and NordicTrack, among many others. If you are a fan of Jay Abraham, Jay Conrad Levinson, Dan Kennedy, Joe Sugarman, etc., you will L-O-V-E working with us and will receive a lifetime’s worth of education.
  • Writing and communication skills are paramount in a virtual environment, especially when managing consumer relations.
  • Public relations experience is a major plus.
  • An understanding of social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) is essential. If you don’t have a Facebook account, this is not the job for you. Extra bonus if you know how to use it (well) to promote a business.
  • Analytical skills, balanced by a creative mindset or outlook. Don’t quite get what that means? This may not be the job for you.
  • An addiction to excellence and the ability to make it happen within the time limits set by the market. We can’t always meet our own standards, but we always try. If it pains you to submit something that is less than perfect; if you stayed up an extra hour in school to give your papers one last edit … please apply.
  • Tech-savvy. New gadgets and tools should thrill you, not intimidate you.
  • Online experience. You don’t need to be a coder, but you do need to be comfortable with the basics about how things work online. WordPress experience and basic html/css experience a plus.
  • Being able to think on your feet and come up with answers fast is a must.
  • You must have a dedicated, private working space in your home that is relatively free from distractions. If you have already worked virtually, you know why this is a must. No high-speed internet? That’s a deal-breaker.
  • A strong academic background is important, and an advanced degree is a plus.
  • We’re looking for someone to be with us for a very long time who can grow with the company. We envision turning to you ten years from now and saying “All this would have been impossible without you.” We’re ready for a long-term commitment. Please don’t apply unless you are, too.

As Marketing Director, you will be the CEO’s “right hand.” The tasks are multitudinous, and range from the slogging to the exciting. They include everything from market research to managing other virtual employees, public relation campaigns, marketing campaigns, preparing reports, setting up ecommerce and website applications, email management, social media campaigns, YouTube series, and anything else required by the company. We have access to virtual assistants and contractors who can help you do all of this; your success will depend upon how well you train them and delegate tasks to them.

If you’re the Marketing Director we’re looking for, you are feeling at least a little excited right now, as if you may have found the right work and this is destiny.

Channel that excitement into your application. Show us your mild workaholic tendencies by taking the time to write the best cover letter of your life. What do you have to say for yourself? Why do you think you are the perfect fit? Sell yourself.

Make sure you address why you want to work as a virtual employee, and include any experience in working from home. Also include evidence of your ability to set a goal, strategize on how to meet it, and actually accomplish it.

Make sure to include the following sentence, and fill in the blank:

“Dog kisses are like _________________________________.”

Timeline for Hiring:

We will hire someone as soon as we find the right person, and not an instant before. If you are reading this, we have not yet met our Marketing Director.

Full-time, Negotiable plus stock options, plus travel to Maui, Hawaii headquarters (if you do not already live on Maui).
